Marginalia:

Mood Gets No Vote

Mood is not evidence. Discipline means distinguishing reluctance from real information and allowing changed circumstances—not discomfort—to guide action.

A surprising amount of life is handed over to mood. We wait to feel clear before writing, ready before acting, brave before confronting, energetic before training. Preference quietly acquires the status of judgment.

The distinction that matters is between reluctance and evidence. Reluctance says: I don’t want to do this. Evidence says: something has changed; this may now be the wrong thing to do. They are not the same, and only one deserves authority.

Discipline is not the worship of discomfort. It is refusing to mistake discomfort for information. Mood gets no vote. Evidence does.
